Hello friends and art fans! Here’s the latest Art of Lore…
This is Chac-mool, the ancient Mayan messenger to the gods. I first encountered this curious figure years ago on an expedition to the ruins at Chichen Itza deep in the Yucatan jungle of Mexico. You’ll find him there still, reclined in stony silence with a look as enigmatic as the boulder beneath him in this scene.
And yet he’s a colorful character too — at least that’s how I’ve chosen to paint him.
