Watercolor of the day ~ Wall of Lore

Wall of Lore #1 ~ Watercolor by John Klobucher

Hello friends and art fans! Here’s a little Art of Lore

This is another view of the famous Wukoki Pueblo ruins that I’ve painted before (from the Wupatki National Monument near Flagstaff, Arizona). It features a tall sandstone wall with small window holes that keep watch over the sacred land and eye the tourists who come to visit.

For a thousand years this wall has stood here. I hope that it stands for a thousand more.

Gray Land Lore #1 ~ Watercolor by John Klobucher

Hello friends and art fans! Here’s a little Art of Lore

Vaam could barely believe her eyes. She’d heard all about the Gray Land by now, but those legends and songs did not do it justice. She paused to survey its colorlessness.

“Beautiful, isn’t it — in a way. But ghastly as well. A shadowed place.”

Her guard nodded. “Yes, ma’am. We best keep our distance.”

“There’s no time for that. We must pass through.”

“At our peril…”

Vaam stopped him. “Afraid of ghosts, pikesman?”

He looked away.

“Maybe I should be too.”

Gray clouds gathered overhead. The dark lake echoed a mournful cry.

“For Syland!” she waved the men on. “Let’s ride!”

Watercolor of the day ~ Path of Lore

Path of Lore #1 ~ Watercolor by John Klobucher

Hello friends and art fans! Here’s a little Art of Lore

I once hiked this trail in the clouds. It was long ago on a trek to the snow-capped Olympic Mountains of Washington state, which rise just west and in view of Seattle. But now that I see this scene again, it could easily pass for someplace more mystical — a path of lore from a timeless epic.

Is that a Jedi temple ahead? Or the gateway to Rivendell, home of elves…

Watercolor of the day ~ Monterey Lore

Monterey Lore #1 ~ Watercolor by John Klobucher

Hello friends and art fans! Here’s a little Art of Lore

If you drive south for a couple of hours from San Francisco along California’s picturesque Pacific coast, you’ll find Monterey, the historic seaside stop made famous in John Steinbeck’s classic novel, Cannery Row. I was there not long ago and discovered this nostalgic scene — a makeshift fishing shack perched precariously over the bay’s blue waters. The shack’s corrugated steel walls and rusty roof harken back to those old sardine canning days when the folk here had rough hands and rougher manners.

If you listen real close, you might still hear ’em…

Watercolor of the day ~ Planet IV Lore

Planet IV Lore #1 ~ Watercolor by John Klobucher

Hello friends and art fans! Here’s a little Art of Lore

The scout ship landed hard, bouncing across the valley floor. A dust cloud billowed up from the trench it dug. It lurched to a violent stop.

The pilot peered out of a cracked, pitted viewport.

Her nav chart said this was Planet IV. She knew nothing else about it.

“Anyone home?” she wondered out loud. But all was still on the blue slopes around her. The orange sky was empty — for now.

Ensign Starlark snapped her helmet on and reached for the hatch release. “Can’t stay here, I’m a sitting duck.”

Whoosh.

She jumped out, blast-rifle ready…

Watercolor of the day ~ Autumn Shore Lore

Autumn Shore Lore #1 ~ Watercolor by John Klobucher

Hello friends and art fans! Here’s a little Art of Lore

If you rode north just far enough,
you might find this idyllic scene —
a lake the likes of Brigadoon.
Or Xanadu.
Sky blue, gold, green.

Who knew El Dorado
was in New Hampshire,
on this shore of lore…

Red Sky Lore #1 ~ Watercolor by John Klobucher

Hello friends and art fans! Here’s a little Art of Lore

Morning.
Spring.
An abandoned pueblo of sandstone and spirits.
One witness — a lore tree.

What does a red sky rising mean?
A god-sign?
An omen?
A warning?

We’ll see…

Watercolor of the day ~ Door to the Lore

Door to the Lore #3 ~ Watercolor by John Klobucher

Hello friends and art fans! Here’s a little Art of Lore

Legend says that this Door of Lore stands in a land long ago and far, far away — a place lost in space where darkness rules. I can picture Lord Vader lurking here, or Kylo Ren, behind those rocks.

Where are Rey and Luke when you need them?! I’ve got a really bad feeling about this…

Skye Valley ~ Watercolor by John Klobucher

Hello friends and art fans! Here’s a little Art of Lore

This watercolor is a Scottish landscape of a lush green valley on the Isle of Skye, where a lone crofter’s cottage sits nestled amongst the ancient hills. I remember this place like it was yesterday.
