Musical Lore ~ The Gypsy Jazz of Tomoko & 440

Red Flower ~ Photograph by John Klobucher

My violinist friend Tomoko Iwamoto and her gypsy jazz ensemble, 440, have just released an awesome album of the coolest music I’ve heard in a long time. Their CD is called “Why Why” and you’ve just got to get it!

If you aren’t familiar with gypsy jazz, it’s the nightclub music of 1930’s Paris pioneered by guitarist Jean “Django” Reinhardt and often featured in the films of Woody Allen. It’s a sound that’s easy to love.
