Watercolor of the day ~ Mayan Sun Lore

Mayan Sun Lore #1 ~ Watercolor by John Klobucher

Hello friends and art fans! Here’s a little Art of Lore

Inspired by a trip to Chichen Itza on the Yucatan Peninsula many years ago, I painted this scene of ancient Mayan imagery set beneath the blazing Mexican sun.

Watercolor of the day ~ Bahía de Tangolunda

Hello friends and art fans! Here’s a little Art of Lore

I was visiting the coast of Oaxaca, Mexico when I painted this colorful vista of Tangolunda Bay on the Pacific Ocean. I’ll give credit to the hot Mexican sun, which dried my paints so fast that I opted for a loose, impressionist style.

Hello friends and art fans! Here’s a little Art of Lore

I painted this watercolor on-site by an inviting, crystal-blue pool overlooking the Pacific Ocean and the Bay of Tangolunda on the beautiful coast of Oaxaca, Mexico. Go ahead and jump in — the water’s fine!

Watercolor of the day ~ San Miguel de Allende

San Miguel de Allende ~ Watercolor by John Klobucher

Hello friends and art fans! Here’s a little Art of Lore

This fanciful watercolor depicts a view of San Miguel de Allende, a vibrant and architecturally rich city in the central highlands of Mexico. The composition is loosely based on a photograph provided by my friend and fellow artist Maria, who grew up a few hours away and was kind enough to share her images of this wonderfully colorful place. Inspired by my own travels in Mexico, I’ve brought plenty of bright hues and fluid shapes to the party and had a lot of fun doing it.

Wouldn’t you love to be there right now? ¡Sí, vamos amigos!
