Watercolor of the day ~ Otsego Lake

Otsego Lake ~ Watercolor by John Klobucher

Hello friends and art fans! Here’s a little Art of Lore

This watercolor depicts a long-lost wilderness of another age set in a place now called Otsego Lake in Cooperstown, New York. I once caught a fleeting glimpse… but then it was gone.

New watercolor ~ Mohican Lore

Mohican Lore #1 ~ Watercolor by John Klobucher

Hello friends and art fans! Here’s the latest Art of Lore

This watercolor began with a visit to the shores of idyllic Otsego Lake in Cooperstown, New York — home of 19th century author James Fenimore Cooper (and the Baseball Hall of Fame, of course). The view north from the lake’s southern end is epic, a romantic distant vista worthy of a scene in The Last of the Mohicans or one of Cooper’s other classic novels.

To help evoke that romance on paper, I reversed some of the painting’s colors, particularly blue and orange, with the hope of creating an aura of someplace lost in the mists of time. Is that Hawkeye and Uncas I spy out there?
