Watercolor of the day ~ San Miguel de Allende

San Miguel de Allende ~ Watercolor by John Klobucher

Hello friends and art fans! Here’s a little Art of Lore

This fanciful watercolor depicts a view of San Miguel de Allende, a vibrant and architecturally rich city in the central highlands of Mexico. The composition is loosely based on a photograph provided by my friend and fellow artist Maria, who grew up a few hours away and was kind enough to share her images of this wonderfully colorful place. Inspired by my own travels in Mexico, I’ve brought plenty of bright hues and fluid shapes to the party and had a lot of fun doing it.

Wouldn’t you love to be there right now? ¡Sí, vamos amigos!

Oasis of Lore ~ Watercolor by John Klobucher

Hello friends and art fans! Here’s a little Art of Lore

This watercolor depicts the ruins of a long lost oasis awaiting travelers still amidst the empty sands of a vast desert of lore. It was inspired, in part, by the paintings of Thomas Cole and other artists of the Hudson River School from the mid 19th century, a movement known for great pastoral scenes of imagined ancient times.

Hello friends and art fans! Here’s a little Art of Lore

I’ve painted this watercolor in the style of a Japanese woodblock print and the beautiful art of Ukiyo-e. It features a hilly orchard of my signature lore trees in winter after a fresh fall of snow, standing undisturbed under a cold blue sky.

Hello friends and art fans! Here’s a little Art of Lore

I’ve long loved the Japanese art of Ukiyo-e, the colorful woodblock prints of such masters as Hokusai and Hiroshige. This watercolor, an invented new view of Mount Fuji, pays homage to them and their classic craft.
